Vinesh Phogat realizes 2020 Olympic dream securing quota in 53 kg category

One of India’s star grapplers, Vinesh Phogat qualified for the Olympics in the 53kg category after she beat favorite Sarah Hildebrandt of the USA in the World C’Ships on Wednesday. Vinesh, 25, was impressive in her 8-2 win against the silver medalist world champion that secured her a berth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Vinesh, later in the day will fight against Maria Prevolaraki of Germany for the bronze medal. Earlier she trounced Ukraine’s Yuliya Khalvadzhy 5-0 in the first round of repechage to still be relevant in the competition for the Olympic quota and bronze medal in her category. Vinesh Phogat is the cousin of the famed Phogat sisters who inspired the Bollywood blockbuster Dangal.
