PSG looking to offer new contracts to Messi and Ramos

Messi and Ramos PSG

The French champions of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) intend to extend the contracts of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos, according to the club’s football advisor Luis Campos. Both players landed in Paris in the summer of 2021; Messi after his deal with Barcelona expired and Ramos after leaving Real Madrid on a free transfer.

In 44 games for PSG, Messi has tallied 16 goals and 23 assists. The 35-year-old is currently in excellent form, tallying five goals and eight assists in only ten appearances.

Ramos, on the other hand, has only made 23 appearances for the team; the seasoned defender had fitness issues during his debut season with the team.

Both players’ contracts expire in June of next year, but according to Campos, the Ligue 1 champions hope to renew them soon.

“I am very happy with him. Last season was difficult for him. After being an icon in Barcelona for 20 years, he had to make a major life change, in a different place and in a different league than the Spanish one,”

Campos told RMC Sport.

“He needed time. Now we see a Leo who will gradually reach the level we were used to. Renew? We have to win a lot, but hopefully he can stay.”

“I am very happy with Sergio Ramos’ level. I think he is not happy with the last season of it. I know Sergio very well, I met him at Real, he is going to have a very good season. He is making progress, he is still efficient. Renewal? why not continue.”

Will Messi and Ramos extend their stay at PSG?

Messi’s rumoured return to Barcelona is still being discussed, with the Catalan club reportedly open to re-signing him for nothing in the next summer.

Campos also spoke about the club’s summer transfer activity, praising the late additions of Carlos Soler and Fabian Ruiz while acknowledging that PSG was not entirely delighted with their window as a whole.

During the summer transfer window, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, Renato Sanches, Nordi Mukiele, and Hugo Ekitike all joined the French club.
